In New York City at the turn of the century, Jack Kelly is the charismatic leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When the titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right.
1. In person auditions from 5:30pm-7pm each evening. Audition forms should be filled out in advance if possible, or night of and turned in. Please wait in your vehicle when you arrive- the volunteer running auditions will motion for you to come into the building. The max number of people allowed in the building will be limited to 10 or less. Auditions will be done one on one instead of in small groups as typically done. Staff and volunteers will be wearing masks- you should consider for yourself doing what’s comfortable for you. Please remember to bring your accompaniment- a live person or electronic device with karaoke track.

AUDITIONS: Those interested in lead role should prepare a 30-60 second cutting from any Broadway or Disney song. You may use piano, CD, or electronic device accompaniment. You may not sing acapella. Those interested in an ensemble role may prepare a song or sing a familiar song like “Happy Birthday.” There will be no dance audition.
ROLES: Youth and Young Adult roles include Jack, Katherine, Davey, Les, Crutchie, Spots Conlon, and an ensemble of small roles and newsies. Adult male and female roles include Medda Larkin, Pulitizer, Jacobi, Snyder, and an ensemble of small speaking, singing, and dancing roles.
REHEARSALS: Generally 3-4 nights per week from 7-9:30pm Mondays through Thursdays, with occasional dance rehearsals and promotional events.
SHOWS: 4 public performances July 23-26, 2020 at the Pablo Center at the Confluence- RCU Theatre.
